MAY 13-18, 2010 | ELECTRIC’S QUINCY DAVIS WINS THE VQS CHAMPS AND MITCH COLEBORN TAKES THE ELECTRIC PINECONE PUNT | VQS CHAMPIONSHIPS, NEWPORT BEACH, CA
Electric and Volcom come together again for the Summer Camp 2010 VQS Championships in Newport Beach. Campers, counselors, and parents arrived last Thursday to start the adventures for the following 3 days. With the sun out and the waves cooperating, all countries showed their talent with the best campers taking the $$$$.
Electric’s Quincy Davis won the “SkinnyDippers” division over some great competitors. Quincy, who has been winning everything lately, would add another win to her belt along with $4000 and more prizes than she could carry. Great Job Quincy!!
If you were able to come see the action there was not only great surfing but also lots of Summer Camp games with endless prizes. Electric’s archery showdown had kids winning sunglasses, sweatshirts, belts, wallets, and all kinds of killer gear. Just hit the bull’s-eye and WIN!!!
Along with all the festivities Electric kicked down $1000 for the “Pinecone Punt” of the event. Australian’s Mitch Colborn who also won the Trail Blazers division punted a huge front side reverse on Day 2. Even with the waves actually being the best on Day 3, this punt would uphold its ranking and take the overall victory. Thanks Mitch for erupting the beach on that one!
Thanks to all the Campers, Counselors, and rodents that helped to make this event happen. See you again next year!!
MAY 15-16, 2010 | BUSCH DOUBLES DOWN! – AUTISM SPEAKS 400 | DOVER INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY DE
Electric NASCAR driver Kyle Busch doubled down with 2 wins over the weekend at The Monster Mile. In Saturdays Heluva Good 200, Busch led 191 of the 205 lap event on his way to a dominate win in his Combos Toyota.
To top that off, Kyle went out the next day and won the Autism Speaks 400 in his M&M’s Toyota. Kyle had a hard faught battle with the 48 of Jimmie Johnson all day but after a speeding penalty on pit road by the 4 time champ Busch was able to check out and win the race by a 7.55 second margin.
Both wins move Kyle up to 2nd place in both the Nationwide and the Sprint Cup series.
Next up, NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway NC May 22, 7:30PM EST.
For the discerning scumbag… The OHM III is our third installment of these most coveted and stylish series of shades. This detailed masterwork leans on its sibling; the wire framed OHM II, bringing a bolder flare to the table with its mold injected Grilamid frame. Make no mistake, your attention to detail will not go unnoticed as the unique brow capped with a distinct plaque and flanking line highlighting the hinge are nothing short of a powerful reminder that you clean up nice. Field–tested by Magnum PI himself… and by “tested” we mean “whooped Higgins’ ass with no more than a rotten look.”
MAY 8, 2010 | GABE KLING & ANDREW DOHENY WIN THE LOWERS WQS & PRO JR | LOWER TRESTLES, SAN CLEMENTE, CA
Gabe Kling (former WCT surfer) is no stranger to surfing with some of the most talented competitors in the world and Saturday would prove that he deserves to be on the Dream Tour again. Gabe has battled injury after injury over the past 3 years and after all of his hard work and endless dedication his payback came this past weekend.
On the final day Gabe took out surfers like 3 time World Champion Andy Irons, standout surfer of the event Jordy Smith, Cory Lopez, and Australian Chris Davidson. With this win Gabe collects $20K and 6500 valuable points which moves him to 5th place in the rankings for the World Qualifying Series (WQS).
Andrew Doheny also prevailed in the Oakley Pro Junior! Andrew has never won on the ASP Jr’s circut until now. This victory could be the biggest win in his career not only because of the prestige of the event but the field of international athletes that he had to outshine.
Andrews 17.10 out of 20 total score in the finals proved that he was smashing not only his competitors but every wave that he took as well. Andrew picks up $2K cash and 1500 points that will help in qualifying in the ASP World Jr Tour.
Overall just a great week for Gabe, Andrew, and the ELECTRIC team in our own backyard. Great work boyz!!!
MAY 1, 2010 | WEST COAST INVITATIONAL | MAMMOTH LAKES, CA
Saturday brought us the Eddie Wall Ride and WCI Rail Jam in the Village in Mammoth. Electric was the Exclusive Eyewear Sponsor for both events.
The first ever Eddie Wall Ride Jam was a super fun event with a ton of Electric Athletes competing for a few different prizes they were giving away. Electrics Peter Line and Scott Blum both took home “I Pad’s” for best tricks of the day.
Electric’s Niko Cioffi and Dylan Alito took home some Skullcandy Headphones for stand out performances on the day. All in all Electric had a ton of kids killing it for the inaugural Eddie Wall Ride.
Saturday night was the WCI Rail Jam in the Village. Electric had a gang load of Am’s in the Rail Jam, we had Tyler Flanagan, Lucas Magoon, Niko Cioffi, Johnny Lazz, and Dylan Alito. None of our Electric Am’s took home the 10K Cash, but most definitely came to have fun. Tyler Flanagan killed it all night, Dylan Alito was murdering the down bar.
Lucas Magoon was trying one trick all night and almost smashed his face trying to gap to the Donkey Dick.
Update:
Check out a quick clip of this event!
Electric would like to thank all the Electric Team Riders who competed all day long, and huge shot out to Oren Tanzer and the Park Crew at Mammoth for putting together the best WCI to date.
